The South Carolina Hall of Fame inducted the founder of the Republican Party of South Carolina in January. The official induction took place at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center and the family of Robert Smalls was honored at the ceremony. Congressman Smalls was a slave and Civil War hero from Beaufort. Over 70 individuals have been inducted into the South Carolina Hall of Fame including Senator J. Strom Thurmond and General William Westmoreland. Eligible for induction into the S.C. Hall of Fame are those born in South Carolina whom obtained recognition elsewhere and those born elsewhere but who lived and obtained recognition in the state. Nominations are open to the public.
Smalls once said "I can never lose sight of the fact that had it not been for the Republican Party, I would have never been an office-holder of any kind-from 1862-to present." He is the last Republican to represent South Carolina's 5th congressional district.
Please check out our entire website and plan to come to the next party or club meeting. The enthusiasm is growing as we are seeing a lot of new faces including the young and minorities. Won't you please help spread our philosophy of personal responsibility, strong families, limited government and equal opportunities for ALL? |
