How the Beaufort County Republican Party is Organized |
The Beaufort County Republican Party has a simple organization structure. There are 83 precincts in our county. Each precinct has a Republican group of officers (President, Vice President, County Committeeman, Secretary, Treasurer) elected to 2-year terms. The County Committeepersons from each precinct sits on the County Executive Committee that meets on a schedule that is published. Precinct Organization In March of non-election years, our 83 precincts hold "Precinct Reorganization Meetings" at different times in different locations. New precinct officers and delegates to the County Convention are elected. Some of these meetings will be held at a location of the Precinct President's and/or the Regional Directors choosing. Advertising showing each of the precincts meeting locations will be run in the Packet and the Gazette two weeks before the first meeting is to be held. The ad will be posted on this web site around March 1. These meetings are VERY important because we collect current names and addresses of new Republicans in the area and identify potential volunteers and neighborhood leaders. This is also how you can become a delegate to the County Convention. The County Convention On a Saturday in April of odd number years, about six weeks after the Precinct Reorganization Meetings, the Beaufort County Republican Party holds its biannual County Convention. The date, time and place will be posted on this site. Delegates from each of the 83 precincts gather to hear from many of our elected officials as well as vote on resolutions, the Party Platform and elect county party officers including County Chairman, Vice Chairman, Region Directors, State Executive Committeeman and Treasurer. We also elect delegates to the upcoming State Convention. The State Convention The South Carolina Republican Party State Convention is held in May in Columbia, SC. The state convention is particularly important because, besides the normal business of electing state party officers and national convention delegates, we hear from candidates running in State-wide primary elections which, by that time, are only a month or so away. It is very exciting! The National Convention Every four years, delegates from GOP state conventions around the nation gather for the Republican Party National Convention at a selected city in America. As there is no National Convention this year, there is therefore no need for our District 2 Convention to elect National Delegate candidate. These two conventions will return in 2012.
